What's the most remote spot on Earth? Posted: 20 Feb 2010 06:00 AM PST If you live in a sprawling city, it's probably hard to imagine what "remote" would even be like. But many, many miles out on the lonely sea, one sparsely inhabited island fits the bill.
Posted: 20 Feb 2010 04:11 AM PST Something for the weekend. Finlandia Hymn by Jean Sibelius. The above video is a tribute to the brave Finnish troops who defended their nation against the Soviet Union in the Winter War of 1939-1940 and the Continuation War of 1941-1944. An English translation of the Finnish lyrics: O, Finland, behold, your day is dawning...
| Posted: 20 Feb 2010 08:55 AM PST Lent is a time of penitence and confession. So today, I want to begin with a confession: I love "Undercover Boss." This reality show debuted on CBS right after the Super Bowl. | Posted: 20 Feb 2010 06:50 AM PST From time to time I have heard… always from liberals… that children shouldn't be made to memorize when they learn. They claim that, because children don't "understand" what they are memorizing, memorizing is counterproductive. Piffle! The collapse of Catholic education was accelerated by, inter alia... |
Houston Astros mourn nun who kept faith in team Posted: 19 Feb 2010 10:30 AM PST One spring season when the Astros were in a particularly bad slump, Sister Damian Kuhn made her way to owner Drayton McLane's office, dressed in her traditional blue habit and veil. "She was our No. 1 fan, and she always took it personal," recalled McLane. He told her it was time to start praying. After a long sigh, she replied...
Posted: 18 Feb 2010 10:14 PM PST Yahoo sports reports: As with all curling teams, Team Canada features five members. Well, six, if you really want to get technical with it. Alternate Kristie Moore, 30, is 5½ months pregnant, making her just the third athlete known to be with child during Olympic competition. Ninety years ago...
