Achieving Career Goals
Whether you are searching for a new job or are satisfied with your current one, it is always important to plan how you can grow in your career. If you are looking for improvement in your workplace, set some new goals for yourself. Here are some tips to help you:
* Decide what you want to do
A couple times a year, evaluate your career path and determine if you're headed in the direction you want to go. If you find that you'd like to make some changes, start planning for where you want to go and how you'll get there.
* Make a career roadmap
Set goals for yourself and make a timeline giving yourself deadlines for when you'd like to achieve those goals. You may want to include career advancements or promotions, new certifications or education goals. Work toward meeting each goal by reviewing the roadmap from time to time.
* Make your mark in your company
Do something once a year to make a difference or to help you stand out in your company. Volunteer for company service opportunities, serve on a committee, or contribute to the company newsletter to help you get some positive recognition and meet new people within your organization.
* Develop professionally
Seize opportunities to help you grow professionally. Attend conferences, seminars, and trade shows. Read career and business books. Always try to take one idea from these events and books and apply them to your work.
