| How I Almost Lost My Soul in San Francisco.. Posted: 15 Jun 2010 07:28 AM PDT While scaling the hills of San Francisco, Joy and I came upon Grace Cathedral—the "cathedral" of the Episcopal Church. It was rather magnificent. I'm a former Episcopal priest and I am, alas, still moved by my old allegiance from time to time. My flesh (or perhaps the devil) suggested that I go in and check it out. "Who knows," |
| Is the Internet making it harder to pray? Posted: 15 Jun 2010 05:00 AM PDT Longtime readers of this blog know about my schizophrenic view of modern technology. On the one hand, I have been deeply involved in technology for over 15 years and I greatly appreciate its many benefits. I blog, I have a facebook page, and I see how technology helps to spread the Gospel in many ways. On the other hand... |
| Episode 2 of ‘Indiana Jones and the Christian Catacombs' Posted: 15 Jun 2010 05:10 AM PDT VATICAN CITY — The Vatican's "Indiana Jones" squad is at it again. A restorer uses a laser on the image of St. Paul in the Catacombs of St. Thecla. (Pontifical Commission for Sacred Archaeology) Bringing out the big guns — using lasers instead of brushes and trowels - to clean crusty walls and ceilings of Rome catacombs closed to the public... |

| The Pope "Rethinks" Clerical Celibacy. In Order to Reinforce It Posted: 14 Jun 2010 09:00 PM PDT It is the sign, he says, that God exists and that one allows himself to be seized by passion for him. This makes it a great scandal, and the desire is to eliminate it. The complete transcript of Benedict XVI's latest statement on this issue. And of a surprising preview of it... |

| New *Bible* Evidence Obama Is the Antichrist! Posted: 14 Jun 2010 01:32 PM PDT By Jimmy Akin | Just, y'know, not good evidence. Consider the following video, which has been going around the Internet, with over a million hits on YouTube between different versions. Okay. So that kind of settles it. NOT. I don't know who is behind the video... |

| For children of fallen-away Catholics, grandparents are irreplaceable apostles Posted: 14 Jun 2010 01:00 PM PDT I have to confess, I've always felt a little cheated that I didn't know either of my grandfathers. My grandfather on my dad's side, Michael Tobin, died on June 10, 1918 when my dad was just about eight years old. My mom's dad, Ralph Emerson Bradley, died on September 4, 1949 when I was still a little tyke. I thin. |
| Because of G.K. Chesterton (29 May, 1874 - 14 June, 1936) Posted: 14 Jun 2010 07:35 PM PDT Gilbert Keith Chesterton died on this day in 1936. I had no idea for several reasons. A) I don't know everything; B) he isn't a saint, so there is no feast day; C) he died long before I was born. But, I can truthfully say that one of the reasons I am a Catholic today is because of G.K. Chesterton. |

| The Death of Irish American Cradle Catholicism? Posted: 14 Jun 2010 05:45 AM PDT Philip Jenkins begins his book: The Lost History of Christianity: The Thousand-Year Golden Age of the Church in the Middle East, Africa, and Asia--and How It Died, with these words: "Religions die." It seems that one could write a similar book right now about Catholicism in New England. In the 19th century... |

| Could you be 'infected' by friend's divorce? Posted: 14 Jun 2010 10:17 AM PDT Divorce is contagious in social networks, a new study says. The idea is based on the theory of social contagion, or the spread of behavior or emotion through a group.
