Posted: 27 Jun 2010 03:02 PM PDT When the days for Jesus' being taken up were fulfilled, he resolutely determined to journey to Jerusalem. On the way they entered a Samaritan village to prepare for his reception there, but they would not welcome him because the destination of his journey was Jerusalem. Today's Gospel, from Luke 9:51-62...
Posted: 27 Jun 2010 10:02 PM PDT One of the three commands that Jesus gave to the disciples was to "drive out demons" (Mk 16:17) in His Name. "Heal the sick" and "preach the good news" (Lk 10:9) are regular ministries of the Church, but the ministry of exorcising demons has received less attention.
Ann Widdecombe, one of the rudest women in Britain, to be ambassador to the Vatican? Yikes Posted: 27 Jun 2010 04:34 PM PDT Ann Widdecombe has many virtues: piety, bravery, kindness, a sharp brain and a willingness to send herself up. But diplomacy is NOT one of them and I dread to think what the effect will be of making her British Ambassador to the Holy See. Friends of mine still speak with horror of a dinner party at...
| Posted: 27 Jun 2010 08:57 PM PDT If we ask someone what is most important to them they will often times answer the question the way it should be answered rather than the actual and truthful answer. | Posted: 27 Jun 2010 08:13 PM PDT At the Italian site Fides et Forma, Francesco Collafemina has posted photos of supremely ugly churches. I mean… reeeeealllly ugly. This church is called Santa Monica. I don't think St. Monica or her son would be amused. And another view…. Well.. not, that one. |
Identifying the Disciple Whom Jesus Loved Posted: 25 Jun 2010 09:40 PM PDT In John's Gospel there is mention of "the disciple whom Jesus loved." This disciple (an apostle really) is never mentioned by name. However it is universally accepted by biblical scholars both ancient and modern, by the Church Fathers as well that this beloved disciple is in fact the Apostle John himself who writes the gospel...
In Belgium, anti-pedophile priest rips 'silence and omissions' of bishops Posted: 27 Jun 2010 06:56 AM PDT Back in April, retired Belgian priest and anti-pedophilia crusader Fr. Rik Devillè told reporters that he had informed church authorities more than fifteen years ago about sexual abuse allegations against Bishop Roger Vangheluwe of Bruges, but no action was taken. Vangheluwe resigned on April 23...
Live from Rome, The Wenski Wagon Posted: 27 Jun 2010 06:02 PM PDT And so, church, welcome to Pallium Week -- the end of the Vatican year, and likewise one of Rome's great showcases of the unity in diversity that is the faith at its best. Joined by the traditional bands of pilgrims from home, some 38 new metropolitans will receive the symbol of their new office early Tuesday, including three Americans...
