This Week in Church History

Educator to the Orient, Samuel R. Brown (1880)
In addition to chairing the committee that translated the New Testament into Japanese, Brown's preaching prepared a strong group of converts which became the nucleus of the first Japanese Protestant church at Yokohama. Near the end of his life, he also established Japan's first Protestant theological seminary, operating it out of his own home in Tokyo at the start. He died on June 20, 1880.
