How to Keep Your Job Search Discrete
If you are currently employed, keeping your job search discrete can be challenging. It's best to keep your job search under wraps at your current job so that you are not put in a compromising situation. To help you, we've prepared a list of tips to help keep your job search discrete.
* Use a personal email address
Using your current employer's email address in your job search is considered taboo. Many companies today have email watch policies, so your email messages may be detected. It also sends the message that you use company time for personal use - not a stellar impression for a potential employer. Your best bet is to open or use an existing personal email account for job search communication.
* Don't wear a suit to work in a casual office
If your office environment is business casual, it's best not to wear a suit to work. Perhaps you can change clothes en route to your interview by adding a jacket or tie.
* Time your interview carefully
You may want to avoid scheduling interviews during the middle of the work day. Instead, breakfast or late-day meetings are the best ways to keep your interviews discrete.
* Keep up the good job at work
Most of all, do not slack off in your current job. Continue to commit yourself to do the best job you can so that you can, even if you aren't happy in your current position. If you do get a new job, your work ethic could result in a great reference from your previous employer.
