Long Distance Job Hunting

Many job seekers are open to relocating for a new job. This may stem from the desire to live in a different city, work for a specific organization, or find a unique position. We understand that searching for a job takes a lot of work, and searching for a new job over a long distance presents some different challenges. That's why we've provided you with the tips below to help you search for a new job from long distance.

* Do your research

Learn where you want to work. Research different areas of the city you'll be moving to and determine where you'd like to work and live. Search the internet for a website on the local area. Many cities have websites with information about local companies, neighborhoods, and culture. Also, check with the Chamber of Commerce and local professional associations for information about local companies.

* Make a trip

Next, it is best to make a trip to the local area. Based on your research, list the organizations that interest you most. Make a point to try to arrange informational interviews with the companies. Also, attended networking functions to help you meet prospective employers or make potential networking contacts. Shake hands and get business cards. Make prospective employers aware of the date that you plan to relocate so they will take you seriously.

* Move to your new home

When you are offered a new job, make sure to ask about relocation expenses. Not all employers will assist you with relocation, but if your new employer does, find out if they will give you funds prior to your move or reimburse you afterward.

By taking these steps, you'll be well on your way to relocate and start your new job.
