Common Job Search Mistakes - Resumes
Have you ever felt in your job search that you have a lot to offer, but there are no takers? Perhaps you've recently earned a degree, or you have a unique combination of skills making you a great candidate for certain positions, but you continue to be met with rejection. You're not alone! There are many individuals just like you who are qualified employees, but who make a number of mistakes when communicating with potential employers.
Over the next several weeks we'll be covering tips on how to avoid some of these common mistakes to help you make your job search more successful! Here are a couple of tips regarding resumes:
-Customize your resume: Many job seekers are interested in a broad range of positions, and thus send out generic resumes and cover letters. This does little to set you apart from other applicants. Take a little time to learn about the organization and personalize your resume and cover letter.
-Follow directions: When an employer gives specifics in a job listing, they expect the requirements to be met. Therefore, provide all information requested in the job listing, such as a salary history or writing samples. This will help demonstrate your ability to follow instruction.
